Description
In this 4-6 day Linear and Exponential Functions Algebra 1 Project, students will choose colleges of interest and investigate how the cost of tuition has changed over time. Students will use their linear or exponential function to represent the data and make predictions.
Standards: CCSS (F.BF.1A, F.IF.8B, F.LE.1B, F.LE.2) and TEKS (A.4C, A.9B, A.9C, A.9E)
Students will investigate how the cost of colleges they are interested in has changed over time. They will write functions to model the cost of college over time and predict the total cost of their own college education. Students will summarize their research by creating a presentation outlining the predicted cost of their education at each college of interest.
This linear and exponential functions real-world project is intended to provide engaging opportunities for extension and application of skills. It can serve as an assessment of students’ understanding while encouraging inquiry and critical thinking among students. This project is flexible in nature and includes teaching slides, warm-ups, exit tickets, student recording sheets and a project overview to help you structure class time and implement project components as smoothly as possible.
