Description
Algebra tiles can sometimes be that manipulative that you don’t know what to do with. They are often represented in textbooks or on state assessments, but most students aren’t truly exposed to them in class. But, they are critical in understanding and internalizing how we solve linear equations. Actually, it goes further than that. The use for algebra tiles begins with integer operations in 6th grade and progresses to multiplying polynomials and factoring in Algebra 1. Â
This Modeling with Algebra Tiles Workshop will teach you the importance of utilizing algebra tiles, show you how to organize them, and give you ideas for using them in class. I will also walk you through the step by step process and language you can use when teaching with algebra tiles.
When you purchase, you have access to the video training that you can view at your leisure. We have included six sets of task cards with problems that are specifically designed to use when modeling. Each set includes a visual step-by-step answer key for your reference.Â
Topics for Videos and Supplemental Task Card Activities:
- Simplifying expressions
- Simplifying expressions with distribution
- One-step equations
- Two-step equations
- Multi-step equations
- Variables on both sides
